Band in a Box decided to catch up Liverpool music video winners Fidel Afro. Fidel Afro’s musical aims are to be fun. Their lives outside of the band may be very serious but their goal for Fidel Afro is to entertain & give their audience something to enjoy. We had a little chat to the band to see how they feel about winning their prize. Where they generate their unique sound and image & what their plans are for the future.

More about Fidel Afro, in their own words…

“We are Fidel Afro, indie troubadours. We are a 5 piece band consisting the following ingredients:

JON- Lead singer. Jon claims to have been John Lennons babysitter and told John Power he’d never get anywhere with the La’s and he should form Cast!

Ian- chief bassist- Ian is the new newest addition to the line up. Ian is the baby of the band although his face says otherwise and he is the only member of the band to be found awake before noon on a Sunday!

PAUL- drums- Paul has hit things since he was very small and he was persuaded to try hitting drums after an unfortunate meeting with the Pope in 1982.

JC- JC was a late addition to the MPG lineup but he hung around for so long we just assumed he was a part of the band.

PETE- Vocals and other guitar bits- Pete’s dad thinks that one of his songs is rubbish but that Fidel Afro are still better than the Arctic Monkeys”
