Hessey’s and Rushworth’s had a long history and tradition of providing instruments and equipment to most of the Bands that came out of Merseyside from the late fifties and Sixties, including The Beatles. In the late 70’s and through the 80’s, 90’s and into the new Century, it was Curly Music that as the more progressive and modern Music Store, began to thrive and prosper.

With Liverpool enjoying a big Popular Music resurgence as a number of Bands came out of the Colleges and small Clubs to enjoy world wide commercial success and acclaim, Curly Music was frequented by & supplied most of them. China Crisis, Frankie Go’s to Hollywood, The Lotus Eaters, The La’s, A Flock of Seagulls, Echo & the Bunnymen, Icicle Works, The Teardrop Explodes, The Farm, O.M.D’s first number one was recorded in a Studio above the Shop! In more recent years, Curly Music can count Oasis amongst its customers as well as members of Cast, Space, Gomez & The Zutons.

Fidel Afro’s musical aims are to be fun. Their lives outside of the band may be very serious but their goal for Fidel Afro is to entertain & give their audience something to enjoy. We had a little chat to the band to see how they feel about winning their prize. Where they generate their unique sound and image & what their plans are for the future.

More about Fidel Afro, in their own words…

We are Fidel Afro, indie troubadours. We are a 5 piece band consisting the following ingredients:
JON- Lead singer. Jon claims to have been John Lennons babysitter and told John Power he’d never get anywhere with the La’s and he should form Cast!
Ian- chief bassist- Ian is the new newest addition to the line up. Ian is the baby of the band although his face says otherwise and he is the only member of the band to be found awake before noon on a Sunday!
PAUL- drums- Paul has hit things since he was very small and he was persuaded to try hitting drums after an unfortunate meeting with the Pope in 1982.
JC- JC was a late addition to the MPG lineup but he hung around for so long we just assumed he was a part of the band.
PETE- Vocals and other guitar bits- Pete’s dad thinks that one of his songs is rubbish but that Fidel Afro are still better than the Arctic Monkeys

Formed in 2009, The Harmonics have already established themselves as a presence in Liverpool, touring in venues across the city. Their recently recorded demo demonstrates The Harmonics’ ability to forge catchy melodies alongside a toe-tapping beat- a talent that has drawn comparisons to bands such as The Beatles, The Hollies and The Who. We caught up with the new fab four to hear how it all began, hear how it actually all began, how they formed and where they are set to go in the future.

This Sunday sees BAND IN A BOX return with a bigger and better event than ever before. Not satisfied with running events that included high quality filming and presentation, the team got together to come up with an all new format. So what has changed? Well for starters we have changed venue and Liverpool’s o2 academy is where you will find this event. In fact, we are looking to book most o2 academy’s across the U.K for our event. As well as Liverpool, Sheffield and Birmingham are already booked for May and June respectively. We are still filming our events using 3 HD cameras and an experienced film crew and still offering great live film packages to all bands looking for additional promotion material. But to make our event really stand out amongst the crowd is the prize we have on offer. One band on the night will win a FULL SCALE MUSIC VIDEO written, produced and directed by us. This is the most lucrative prize we have at our disposal, and is something most bands simply cannot afford in normal circumstances. As far as we aware no company has ever set up an event like this with such a premium prize on offer.

This young, energetic 4 piece have a vibrant sound with some fantastic harmonies complimenting there unique style. Their talent is evident on stand out track Soley Road which is reminiscent of the late 60’s and the Beatles revolution.

With an array of quality songs at his disposal, this young man is moving in one direction and that’s upwards. He’s gained his reputation through hard work and some stand out performances, whether that be with his full band or solo acoustic shows. Check out “To leave you”, an absolute belter of a tune.

A band who just know how to produce wonderful melodies and sing along songs. Stand out track is “Absolute youth”, capturing the essence of summer and has a real feel-good factor about it.

You only have to listen to “Don’t tell your mother” to hear the talent within this band. Plus if anyone else can find a better designed t shirt than what they have please do let us know!

You will be rubbing your eyes in disbelief once this great band takes to the stage. How they produce such amazing music for a band so young defies logic, but that’s what they do time and time again. Not your average pop band, no way. These guys Rock, and they do it with a swagger and conviction that would put most bands to shame. A fitting band to headline this Sundays event.
So there you have it, the line up has some of the best bands Liverpool has to offer and we believe we have one of the best events in the making. All that is needed now is you, the fan of music to get yourself down to the o2 this Sunday and support your favourite band.
