The Soviet: The Return of David Tyrell

David Tyrrell was one of the first musicians we worked with here at Band In A Box. We produced a full scale music video for the extremely talented musicians.

The original EP Believe was a collection of tracks which grabbed my attention immediately.

We met numerous times with Dave and his band, we developed a idea for their track Believe. The video was shot over a two day period, and we became long term fans of the David Tyrrell experience.

When it was announced that a new album was to be released, substance, i was personally extremely eager to hear the new material. The first thing i heard was the track substance, i heard a demo version, a rough recording…..

This track has since become a personal favorite, a truly moving, powerful and emotional piece of music.

David Tyrrel has come far in a short period of time, evidence of the artists dominance in the music world. What follows is a profile video of the latest project David is working on.

Shot in the icey cold, we catch David and the new members of the bands.

We eagerly anticipate the new album and cant wait for the band to start touring. All the best in the studio, and we look forward to hearing the new material!

Ocean Bend

A musical roller coater, heavy to soft rock with a sprinkle of hundreds and thousands on top is here. Ocean bend are the musical marmite of the 21st century. You either like it or you dont! From a lead singer who wrote his first song at 8 years of age, a drummer who could play before he could walk, a guitarist forged by guitar pro. (dont ask!) and a bass player that was born to tour.
These guys are not just any old rock band, they will find a connection in any listener and make them yearn for more. With their artistic influences spreading through 30 years of music, fans will never be able to predict what the next song will sound like.
However unpredictable these guys are, the pleasure just keeps on coming… Mmm marmite!

The Lunar Pilots

The Lunar Pilots are a new and infectious Rock/Pop band from Essex. Influences stemming from the 70s and 80s through to today’s best music, The Lunar Pilots have already defined their own original sound and style. In a short space of time the band have already started to make great waves and are building a strong and loyal following. The songs have dark moments of piano subtleties that fit comfortably alongside high-tempo guitar-led danceable optimism. This backed by a tight and inventive driving rhythm section, has already helped define the Lunar sound. Constantly striving for musical perfection, be it in the rehearsal room, the studio or on stage, the Pilots mix the different flamboyances of 5 very individual musical minds. The result is a winning combination of great songs played with all the energy and passion youd expect from a band striving for success. The songs are radio friendly and the band is hoping that big things lie in wait around the corner…

Second Nature – The Making of ‘Cold Light of Day’

Second Nature are a metal band based in Liverpool. We were approached by the band initially to make them a profile video which they could send to labels etc showcasing their style and image.As the first production had no backing we have a relatively small budget, therefore we shot a video over a weekend in the band rehearsal building. The band we extremely pleased with this low budget film and their audience demanded more video footage. We then started work on this video/track entitled COLD LIGHT OF DAY.

As in all our productions we sat down with the band, listening to the track developing ideas through flow charts and colour boards. It was decided that with a budget we would make a film displaying a post apocalyptic world. The difference between this music video and the first one was budget. This is reflected in the pre production time spent on the project, 3 months as well as the costume, make-up and location.

It was essential that our location was some form of under ground layer. We search for weeks for a appropriate space, eventually deciding upon a disused train tunnel in the depths of Liverpool. The location however didn’t come easily, there was no power, water was seeping through the walls and there was a 3/4 mile walk from the entrance to spot we were filming. The first day of filming brought us further problems, the entrance to the tunnel backs up onto a underground car repair centre. As there was no power in the location we were using generators to create power, unfortunately for us the toxic fumes created by these generators were drifting down the tunnel into the garage knocking the entire workforce out. We did however overcome these initial problems and resumed filming on the second day.

A large part of the production was based around the costume design. For this we used a artist called Richard Kent. Richard is currently working in the London’s West End as a theatrical designer. This influence is visible throughout the design of the costumes for both the band and the guards in the film.

Overall this production took three months pre production, one week filming and one month editing.
This video was extremely interesting to work on, partly as the idea was so vivid, the talent of others working on the project such as Richard and location we were in. Each day brought new challenges and the footage was amazing.
